Feast of the Vietnamese Martyrs

About

Hello and thank you for joining us as we gather to pray and honor the Vietnamese Catholic martyrs. Through this playlist we will delve deeper into the lives and sacrifices of these remarkable individuals. The group we commemorate today includes 117 martyrs who were canonized by St. John Paul II in 1988, though the history of persecution spans from the 17th to the 19th centuries in Vietnam. It is estimated as many as 300,000 Vietnamese Catholics were killed beginning in the late 18th century and lasting more than 60 years. These martyrs include St. Andrew Dung-Lac, a priest, and his 116 companions, whose professions ranged from bishops and priests to lay Christians, all united by their unyielding fidelity to Christ. Let us now pray, asking for their intercession, that we too may be courageous and steadfast in our witness to the Gospel in our lives.
