ABOUT CBCP NEWS The CBCP News Service was approved by the Permanent Council of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) in November 1997. After an initial attempt in 1998, the service was relaunched on July 12, 2007, at the CBCP Media Office, led by then CBCP President Archbishop Angel N. Lagdameo. CBCP News was established to provide accurate, reliable news from a distinctively Catholic perspective. Recognizing the vital role of mass media in shaping public opinion, it seeks to spread the Gospel through news reports and feature stories that highlight how Christian values are lived out in everyday life. In line with the vision of the Second Plenary Council of the Philippines, CBCP News serves the CBCP, dioceses, parishes, religious congregations, Catholic schools, and the wider Catholic community through news and information that promote evangelization, formation, and public awareness guided by Gospel values. Its coverage includes the Pope and the Vatican, the CBCP, local churches, religious and lay organizations, Catholic institutions, and social issues affecting the lives of the faithful and the wider community.
