The Catholic community at 1300 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott, draws inspiration from the extraordinary life of Saint Maria Goretti, a young virgin-martyr who embodied the virtues of purity, courage, and forgiveness. Born into a devout but impoverished family, Saint Maria Goretti grew up with a strong faith and a heart full of love, assuming household duties and caring for her siblings after her father's passing. Her bravery in resisting assault and offering forgiveness to her perpetrator has made her a powerful symbol of hope and resilience for victims of abuse and a role model for young people seeking to live a holy life. Canonized by Pope Pius XII in 1950, Saint Maria Goretti is now the patron saint of chastity, victims of sexual abuse, and young people. The community at 1300 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott, seeks to emulate her example, living out their faith through daily prayer, honest work, and courageous love, trusting in God's mercy and striving to be instruments of grace in the world.
