IMPORTANT: The Mystery of Holy Anointing will be served on Great and Holy Wednesday, March 27th, by the end of the Liturgy of Presanctified Gifts. The Church’s practice of anointing with holy oil for the healing of soul and body dates back to Apostolic times, when St. James wrote, “Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the presbyters (priests) of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.” (James 5:14) Those who wish to receive this Mystery should ideally approach it after having made a recent Confession.
