Do you know the 4️⃣ basic forms of prayer? 🙏🏻 And a better question, one that I asked myself too, do I integrate all 4️⃣ into my life? 🤔 I remember when I was teaching Theology to juniors we went over the four basic forms of prayer. It’s when you begin to say things out loud and seek to encourage others that you realize whether or not you yourself are doing something. It was at this point that I noticed how truly weak I was at number four, prayers of Thanksgiving. 1️⃣ Blessing & Adoration 2️⃣ Petition 3️⃣ Intercession 4️⃣ Thanksgiving <Some might list them in other synonymous terms but it all boils back down to this.> The liturgy holds all four of these types of prayer: we praise and adore God, we ask God for things we need or believe to be good, we ask others at Mass with us and the angels, and saints to pray for us as we seek Heaven, and we thank God for his abundant mercy and blessings. In fact, as I’m sure many of you know, the term Eucharist is derived from the Greek word “eucharistein,” which means thanksgiving. If the Eucharist is the source and summit of our faith, then a prayer life of thanksgiving must flow forth from that. 🌟This is a clear and straight forward liturgy to liturgical living connection that I don’t want you to undervalue. 🌟 It’s very easy in prayer to focus on our needs and the needs of those around us. There’s just so much to pray for! Yet, in that same vein, there’s also so much to be thankful for. And through expressing this gratitude we put God back into the center of our lives. “…every event and need can become an offering of thanksgiving.” (CCC2638) How can we be more thankful in our daily living? 🐝 Find the good in any given situation, and thanks God for it. 🐝 Say grace before all your meals. 🐝 Write what you’re thankful for that day in a place where you can see it and remember it. “It is truly right and just, our duty and salvation, always and everywhere to give you thanks…” (Eucharistic Prayer Preface in the Roman Missal) Let’s start together! Write what you are thankful for in the comments.
