Join us for First Friday Adoration on January 3rd, from 9 AM to 9 PM. First Friday Adoration is a devotional tradition of spending an hour in Eucharistic adoration in the presence of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Adoration is a sign of devotion to and worship of Jesus Christ, who we believe to be truly present in his Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity, under the appearance of the consecrated host. As a devotion, Eucharistic adoration and meditation are more than merely looking at the Blessed Host, but are believed to be a continuation of what was celebrated in the Eucharist at Mass. Common practices during adoration: prayer, worship (silently express your love and adoration for Jesus), reading scripture, contemplation, spiritual reading, sitting silently with Jesus, examination of conscience, intercession (praying for others). The food pantry needs volunteers this month on Wednesdays from 12:45 to 4:15 PM. There will be some extra shifts on Tuesday, November 26th, in preparation for Thanksgiving Day meal packages that will be given away. As we move into the fall season in preparation for 40 Days for Life, let us join together with other parishes in supporting the Catholic Church's peaceful and prayerful fight to give voice to the unborn children of our world. In remembrance of the unborn babies, the Knights of Columbus, St. Matthew Council, will pray the Holy Rosary on Saturday, September 14, at 9 AM at Saint Matthew Catholic Church in front of the grotto. In observance of Labor Day weekend, the Pastoral Center is closing at 2 PM on Friday, August 30 and will reopen on Tuesday, September 2nd. This also means That Man Is You (TMIY) is cancelled and will return on September 7th.
The Tuesday, August 13th Mass at 8:30 AM has been cancelled. Thursday is the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a Holy Day of Obligation. Two Masses are scheduled for Thursday at 8:30 AM and 7 PM. We need adult volunteers to help with our Kindergarten through 5th grade religion classes this fall. If you’re unsure whether this ministry is for you, we invite you to join us at the Regional Catechist Day on Saturday, August 17, from 9 AM to 1 PM. This event will provide an opportunity to: -Listen to enlightening talks -Check out resources for classes -Engage in discussions with other catechists -Spend time in Adoration Breakfast and lunch will be provided at no charge for participants. Liturgy of the Word for Children, ages 4-6 years, is currently on hiatus until September. Each Sunday during the 9 AM Mass, children ages 4-6 are escorted by an adult leader to a separate room within the Church to experience the Scripture readings at a level they can understand. We are in need of adult volunteers to continue this ministry in the fall. All resource materials are provided to the leader in advance and are very easy to follow.
