Today the Church celebrates the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. While Our Lady of Mount Carmel is the patron saint of the Carmelite Order, the basis for the universal Church honoring Mary under this title dates to her appearance to an English Carmelite, St. Simon Stock, in the 13th century. She gave him the Brown Scapular, a garment worn by religious over the neck and shoulders as an apron, to be worn by Carmelites “as a sign of her protection.” It is a Marian devotional practice that, over the centuries, has spread to Catholics around the world. We have a special page dedicated to this special feast day. We answer questions such as: What happened on Mount Carmel with Elijah? Where and what is Carmel? What is the Brown Scapular? What is the spiritual meaning of Scapulars? On the page, we also offer a free eBook, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Novena Prayer and Flower of Carmel Meditations. No matter the problems we face or the times of distress or hardship, our Blessed Mother wants to help us. Each day of this Novena, you are encouraged to meditate on a verse from the beautiful prayer known as the Flos Carmeli, so that you might grow in deeper love for Our Lady. We hope this eBook and this page will help you grow in love for and devotion to Our Lady. May God bless you! In Christ, Your EWTN Family
